The management committee of REHIS has issued a statement to members to clarify their position on the announcement by CIEH that they will set up a Scottish Administrative Region.

Congratulations to People 1st! After a determined campaign, People1st(Sector Skills Council) have succeeded in securing 500 additional funded places for Hospitality Modern Apprenticeships. These represent approximately 200 Chefs and 300 in Hospitality Supervision with no restriction on age. Skills Development Scotland has now asked for providers to contract for these places. We would urge you to respond to them as soon as possible. The deadline is the 19th August.
This is an opportunity to demonstrate the demand from the sector. The uptake of these places will indicate to the Government how many the sector will need next year. It is vital that the demand articulated through the consultation with providers and employers is demonstrated by numbers.

Welcome to the inaugural Annual Environmental Health Review. Although collated and published by the Institute the review aims to highlight the contribution made to Environmental Health by a wide range of partners working across Scotland. We hope you find the review to be interesting and informative. The document has been produced in pdf format and will shortly be made available in e-book format on this website.

IOM, in association with REHIS, is running an afternoon seminar on Asbestos Contamination in Gardens. It will take place in Edinburgh at 1.30pm on Tuesday, 27th October 2009, at the IOM HQ on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
This half day event is aimed at EHOs, Contaminated Land Officers and others involved in assessing and managing risks from contaminated land.

The Scottish Government has decided to accelerate the implementation of the Act and health boards and local authorities are advised to have lists of designated competent persons in place by 1 October 2009, when the key health protection provisions come into effect, and to have Joint Health Protection Plans developed by 1 April 2010. The provisional figure for the number of workers fatally injured in 2008/09 is 180, and corresponds to a rate of fatal injury of 0.6 per 100000 workers. The rate of fatal injury for 2008/09 represents a statistically significant decrease compared to the average rate for the previous five years.
