North Lanarkshire Council are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, self-motivated Food Safety Officer who can deal with demanding goals to ensure effective service delivery.
Based within the Business Regulation team you will be part of a team responsible primarily for the efficient administration and management of all food and health and safety law related functions. The administrative base for the team is Protective Services, Community Operations, North Lanarkshire Council, Station House, 950 Old Edinburgh Road, Bellshill ML4 3FG. As you will be categorised as a Hybrid Worker, your main place of work will be both your home address and Station House, 950 Old Edinburgh Road, Bellshill.
The Business Regulation team deals with enforcement of food law, health and safety law, investigation of infectious disease notifications and processing of licence applications relating to skin piercing and tattooing and venison dealers.
You will be responsible for undertaking food law interventions, investigation of food poisoning outbreaks and other food-related incidents, food sampling, infectious disease surveillance, private water supplies, dealing with a range of complaints including food complaints, issuing export health certificates and assisting with developing policies and strategies. In addition, you will deal with all relevant issues relating to infectious disease notifications and will undertake public health duties, as required.
The successful candidate must be able to meet the qualification and competency requirements detailed within the Food Law Code of Practice (Scotland) in respect of official controls for food law.
It is essential that applicants hold The Scottish Food Safety Officers’ Registration Board (SFSORB) Higher Certificate in Food Practice OR Higher Certificate in Food Premises Inspection and Higher Certificate in Food Standards Inspection.
It is desirable that applicants hold a Certificate in Advanced HACCP at SCQF Level 8 or equivalent and have completed a training course in Official Control Verification with associated experience of Approved Premises. Applicants must have a sound knowledge of food safety law and be able to demonstrate environmental health experience within this discipline. In addition, applicants must have the ability to work within a team framework, have the ability to organise their workload in an effective and productive way and possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Applicants must have excellent IT skills. A current driving licence is essential. REHIS membership is desirable.
