The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and REHIS Chief Executive Jackie McCabe and Director of Training David Bett were delighted to attend the celebration conference in Glasgow.

The theme of the event was “25 Years of Making All Learning Count”, highlighting the important role the SCQF plays in recognising and valuing the many different ways people learn and develop their skills.

The SCQF provides a way to compare and understand Scotland’s wide range of qualifications and is built on an architecture of trust. REHIS qualifications have been part of the framework for over 10 years, supporting the recognition and value of the learning and skills gained through REHIS training. The conference featured a wide range of speakers, including the new Minister for Innovation, Technology and Tertiary Education, Alyn Smith, who highlighted the rapid pace of automation and the importance of training people for the changing world of work. We also heard from the “real” David Cameron, who spoke about the importance of purpose and meaning and the role education can play in supporting this.

There were excellent presentations from schools, colleges and industry covering topics including recognised prior learning, third-party credit rating and apprenticeships.

A key message throughout the day was that lives are not built in straight lines, and learning doesn’t have to follow a single path. Education can take many forms and happen at every stage of life — a powerful reminder of the importance of “life-wide learning” and ensuring that all learning counts.
