As the 4th largest authority in Scotland we want to do more and have ambitious plans to regenerate our communities, build new homes, develop Smarter Homes, create employment and attract investment to North Lanarkshire by ensuring communities and local environments are attractive places to live and work.  Based within the Pollution Control and Public Health Section in Municipal Buildings, Kildonan Street, Coatbridge or working from home you will be part of a team responsible for the efficient delivery and administration of all pollution control, public health and general environmental health related functions covering a geographic area within North Lanarkshire.

The main duties of the post include: undertaking investigation work measuring noise levels and assessing any potential noise impact; investigating general pollution control issues on a reactive basis; responding to statutory planning consultations in relation to air quality and contaminated land issues; investigation of public health complaints, including statutory nuisance investigation and assessment; assisting in the development of policies and strategies.  The job requires that work is updated promptly on the Council’s database systems in line with the designated response times.   

It is essential that applicants hold a degree in Environmental Health or equivalent, REHIS Diploma in Environmental Health, or equivalent.  You must have a sound knowledge of current pollution control, public health and environmental protection and be able to demonstrate experience in pollution control work or environmental health.  In addition, you must have the ability to work to specific deadlines and possess excellent communication and IT skills.  A current driving licence is essential.  REHIS membership is desirable.

The successful candidate will be required to participate in an out-of-hours standby service.
