The Council is seeking a skilled and highly motivated person to work in the Pollution Control & Public Health team within North Lanarkshire Council’s Protective Services Section.
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to assist in the development and implementation of the Council’s Strategy for the Inspection of Contaminated Land, and to carry out duties including peer reviewing contaminated land site investigations, assessing ground gas monitoring results, developing scopes for Part IIA intrusive investigations, liaising with consultants and ensuring that planning applications are suitable for their intended end use. Verification of remediated sites and assessing submissions to discharge planning conditions will form part of the day-to-day work.
Updating the Council’s contaminated land database is an essential part of the work. Your expertise will help in delivering key elements of The Plan for North Lanarkshire and the Programme of Work which will regenerate land and provide facilities for communities over the coming years to ensure that North Lanarkshire is the place to live, learn, work, invest and visit.
A degree in an appropriate environmental related discipline, or equivalent prior experience and knowledge, together with previous experience within a contaminated land environment, are desirable, as is a knowledge of land ownership research and GIS software.
To succeed in this role, you must be a team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to plan work and meet deadlines.
You must hold a driving licence and be able to travel throughout the area of North Lanarkshire Council.
This role is Hybrid and is a mixture of home, office and site working which is based at, Station House, 950 Old Edinburgh Road, Bellshill ML4 3FG.
This role may require out of hours working as required.
