Food Standards Scotland are currently seeking applications for Certifying Officers within Food Standards Scotland based in Larkhall, Bellshill and Harthill. These are fixed-term and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

Certifying Officers (COs) with a veterinary qualification will provide export certification for products of animal origin (POAO), primarily fish, fishery products and shellfish but other POAO may be required. Certifying Officers with an Environmental Health Officer or Food Safety Officer qualification will provide export certification for fish, fishery products and shellfish. This key front-line food and drink operational role will initially be based at hubs in Larkhall, Bellshill and Harthill, but other locations may become part of the network. The post holder requires knowledge of the food industry and / or a high technical regulatory environment, as well as awareness of health and safety issues, to ensure products meet the requirements of importing countries as detailed in the export health certificates.

The CO role is one of the key front-line operational roles within the FSS. These staff deliver export certification in approved establishments for export of products of animal origin, ensuring that products exported meet the requirements of importing countries as detailed in the export health certificate.

COs will manage and work with Certification Support Officers (CSO) to gather any information and evidence to support the export certification process.
When relevant training and qualifications are in place, other Official Control (OC) duties will be required in other approved premises.

Qualifications Required
The CO post requires the candidates to have the minimum qualifications:

Either:
1. Qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon and be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) or

2. Qualified as Environmental Health Officer or Food Safety Officer and be a member of Royal Environmental Health Institute Of Scotland (REHIS).
