Based within the Environmental Health team for East Renfrewshire Council, you will be expected to carry out environmental health functions within East Renfrewshire’s geographical boundaries, with the aim of providing the highest achievable standard of environmental protection and public health care.

You must have a sound knowledge in Public Health, particularly in relation to coronavirus legislation. As the work progresses there may also be some involvement with some food safety aspects of leaving the European Union/Brexit. This post will be initially based within the public health team and you may be required to support the department by assisting also in wider and general public health or environmental protection work.

You will be required to provide advice to businesses to ensure compliance with the Coronavirus (Scotland) Act 2020 and associated regulations, whilst providing feedback, generating reports and recommendations for further action to line managers. 

You should have excellent communication skills and be able to engage with a range of stakeholders including businesses, residents, council departments and external agencies.

The applicant requires to be flexible and the service also operates an on-call rota over the weekend that you will be required to participate in.

It is essential that applicants hold an HND or equivalent. Knowledge of how to approach complex legal situations and the application of legislation to ensure compliance is beneficial. In addition, you must have the ability to work to specific deadlines with good IT skills. A current full driving licence is desirable.

This post is temporary until 31 March 2022 with the possibility of an extension.
