Following the largest outbreak of E. coli O157 from animal contact at an open farm in GB in 2009, HSE in conjunction with LGR reviewed and revised the Agriculture Information Sheet AIS 23 ‘Preventing or controlling ill health from animal contact at visitor attractions’. HSE also produced revised guidance on inspection and enforcement at such premises.
An industry Code of Practice will shortly be issued which will replace AIS23.
To support the industry Code of practice the HSE with the Scottish Government and the National Farms Attraction Network (NFAN) have arranged three half day training sessions for agencies which have enforcement responsibility for visitor attractions.
The training session carries two and a half hours CPD for REHIS Members.
