REHIS Southern Centre- Wider Public Health Training Event & Southern Centre AGM

Connecting Environmental Health to Scotland’s Public Health Agenda

Since the days of Edwin Chadwick, the Environmental Health profession has been at the forefront of protecting public health through regulatory interventions.

The Scottish Government has recognised this contribution as part of the Public Health Reform Programme and the profession has been identified as forming part of Scotland’s specialist public health workforce. However, to enable the delivery of Scotland’s public health priorities, there must be a whole systems approach – it cannot be achieved through the efforts of one profession, organisation or agency but rather the inter-connection of the specialist, core and wider public health workforce that recognises each other’s contribution and works together to deliver the necessary improvements to Scotland’s public health.

Building on the success of previous years’ seminars, the REHIS Southern Centre is pleased to announce that the training event preceding the 2019 AGM will be a continuation of the theme of the Wider Public Health Agenda. The event offers an opportunity for Environmental Health professionals to gain an insight into the contributions made by other professions and organisations in improving public health as well as academics at the forefront of policy development. There is also an example of ‘regulatory interventions in action’ outlining a case study which used the powers of the Public Health (Scotland) Act 2008.

The event is intended for both student and qualified officers. Participation in the event carries a maximum CPD value of 4 hours (core activity) for the REHIS Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Scheme. (The amount of CPD claimed should be reflective of new knowledge gained at the event).

This event is £20 to members and £50 for non-members – booking is essential.
