Report of Health Protection Advisory Group 2011

When the Health Protection Advisory Group (HPAG) was set up in 2005, the aim was to establish an advisory group that represented the wide spectrum of health protection in Scotland. It followed on from the other changes that had been implemented with respect to health protection. It was the first attempt to produce such a comprehensive advisory mechanism at a national level. There was debate at the time about the limited role of a group that was ‘advisory’ and did not have any executive function, or indeed a funded infrastructure.

Following a report by Food Standards Agency Chief Executive, Tim Smith, the FSA Board announced the Agency’s intention to review the food safety official controls delivery within the UK.Although the strategic aims and objectives of the review are still unclear, a coalition of collaborating professional organisations within Scotland has been formed to gather evidence for submission to the review and to make the evidential suite available to the wider profession in Scotland to assist in any submission those individuals or bodies wished to make.SFELC Chairman George Fairgrieve, seen here r

The regulations apply to all Corporate Members of the Institute who are Environmental Health Officers. The regulations came into effect on 1 January 2008, and may be amended or revoked by the Council of the Institute at any time.
